Who is Super Dave?
A man in orange has been patrolling Christchurch’s Central City streets over the last few months with a vision to make the area within the four avenues a better and safer place for road users.
When SCIRT reached its peak of work in the Central City earlier this year there were up to 45 work sites within the four avenues (Bealey, Deans, Fitzgerald, Moorhouse). A need was quickly identified to have a dedicated Traffic Manager working in the area to keep an eye on SCIRT work sites. With twelve years of traffic management experience behind him, David Lapthorn was the perfect candidate for the role.
Dave has earned the nickname “Super Dave” due to his hands on style and willingness to help with anything from a misplaced road cone to a car crash. In addition to his work for SCIRT, he also works closely with CERA and the Christchurch Transport Operations Centre (CTOC).
