A Belgian prisoner, who is serving a life sentence has been given the right to end his life, the BBC reports.
Frank Van Den Bleeken was convicted in the 1980’s for rape and murder.
A landmark ruling has allowed the 50-year-old to have his life ended by doctors after he argued that he would never be freed, and that he was suffering “unbearable psychological anguish”.
The BBC says the ruling is the first involving a prisoner since the assisted dying law was introduced in Belgium 12 years ago.
Van Den Bleeken will soon be transferred to a hospital where he will be helped to die.
