Police are reminding bosses putting on ‘shouts’ for their staff today to ensure everyone gets home safely.
For many trades and construction companies today will be the last day of work and traditionally it is marked with an end of year ‘shout’.
Police are reminding staff and hosts that this year the new lower alcohol limits will be in force.
Canterbury road policing manager Al Stewart said Canterbury police are running their second alcohol focused activity in the lead up to the festive season today and extra police are rostered on to run checkpoints across the district.
“Anyone stopped, no matter what the time of day, will be breath-tested,” Inspector Stewart says.
Canterbury police are also encouraging anyone having an office party or shout to register it onwww.GoodOne.org.nz which has tips to hosting a safe party.
“Other than moderating your consumption of alcohol, drinking water and eating food regularly are the two most effective ways of controlling the effects of alcohol,” alcohol harm reduction manager, Senior Sergeant Spite, says.
