Four-times Americas Cup loser claims he is gutted after being dropped as helmsman and skipper…

 What did Barker expect?

Dean Barker is “gutted” he’s been axed as helmsman for Team NZ’s next America’s Cup campaign.

But despite only finding he’d been dropped from the team through a statement to the media, the man who’s skippered boats at four America’s Cups would still love to see New Zealand bring the silverware home.

Olympic medallist Peter Burling and Glenn Ashby, who has also been appointed sailing director, will take over the helming duties, Team NZ announced in a statement on Thursday.

Barker’s been offered a new position as performance manager and sailing coach for the syndicate – but Barker says his biggest value is as a sailing director
