Kelvin Davis back:
There will be hundreds, thousands, no tens of thousands of words written about Saturday’s disasterous election results which have allowed a neo-fascist John key – led National Party to gain its third term. And the poor, the working poor and even the not so well off lower middle class will struggle more than they have in the last six years, as this alien administration puts the boot in. They have already signaled that welfare benefits will be reduced by 25%. If job creation was increased by a similar margin it wouldn’t be too bad, but job creation has not kept up with job losses.
Labour will have to do a lot of soul searching, perhaps change its leadership and reform the party as well. It will have to find some way of financing future election campaigns as well. It certainly doesn’t want tainted money from people like Kim Dotcom who has destroyed Mana as a parliamentary force. David Cunliffe may well be the sacrificial lamb.
Yes, in hindsight it should have formed an electoral coalition with the Greens and other opposition parties – but the simple fact of the matter is it didn’t! So Labour has some big problems to sort out in coming weeks and months. But Labour is like the cream in your coffee – it always rises to the top!
